What I'm Reading

I love reading holiday books during the holidays!

Currently on my Kindle: A Little Christmas Magic by Sylvie Kurtz , a "Grinch" tale.

This book follows single mom Beth's developing relationship with her new Grinch-y neighbor, Logan Ward. Logan's sour attitude about Christmas stems from the pain of loss. His heart is broken, and Beth is determined to fix it! It is a delightful combination of two of my favorite tropes: "single parent" and "wounded hero".

Logan lost his daughter in a horrific accident and blames himself. Beth's son, Jamie, gives him flashbacks of happier times. The pain reminds him to keep his distance from Beth and her son. He doesn't want to love again. He can't. It hurts too much. Beth, a widow, feels as though her attraction to Logan betrays her late husband, Jim's, love.

The emotional tale is satisfying both in its romantic plot and its Christmas coziness. Late in the book there is some steam between Logan and Beth, so it is not a "clean" romance. Those who object to "open door" sex are duly forewarned! If I were giving book stars, I'd give it four. I can't give it five because the ending (which I won't spoil) includes a clichéd plot device. Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone after a nice Christmas read.
